No Odor Fish Frying - If you are frying fish in a skillet, put a tablespoon of creamy peanut butter in the pan before the fish. The peanut butter will absorbe the fish smell so your house will not have the fish odor.
Protect Your Cookbooks - Open your cookbook to the page you need and then wrap your cookbook in plastic wrap or if small enough, slip it into a plastic bag to protect the pages.
Inexpensive Trivets - Next time you are at the home improvement store, check their mismatched tile section. You can pick up beautiful ceramic tiles for next to nothing. Simply glue cork circles on the four corners of the underside and you have a ready to use trivet.
Storing Herbs and Spices - When storing herbs and spices, keep them in a cupboard that is the furthest away from heat and light. This will help them to keep their original flavor and color. Most ground herbs will retain their best flavor if used within one year of grinding.

Getting Your Cutting Board to Stay Put - Take rubberized shelf liner and cut it just smaller than your cutting board. (wood or plastic) Place the shelf liner under the cutting board and it will never slip around your counter again. If you don't have any shelf liner, in a pinch you can put a dish towel under it.

Easy Way to Separate Eggs - put a funnel in a bowl. Crack the egg into the funnel, the white will slide out of the small end and the yolk will stay in the funnel.

The Cure For Sticky Pasta - Gently sautee it in a bit of olive oil, to make the pieces slippery so they don't stick together. Stir very gently so you don't damage the noodles.
Missing Funnel - If you can't find your funnel, you can make one our of aluminum foil by folding a square sheet diagonally and roll into a funnel. Transparent tape will hold it.
Don't Be Afraid To Write in Your Cookbook - If you learn something valuable when making a recipe, write it in the margin of your cookbook. You never know when you will make it again or if you will forget what happened the first time. (like to cut the amount of sugar in half because it was too sweet)
Does Food Stick to Your No Stick Skillet? - Make scrambled eggs and if they do not slide out of the pan, leaving no residue, it is time for a new skillet.

Room Temperature Eggs - If you need room temperature eggs but forgot to take them out of the fridge, place the eggs in a bowl of warm (not hot) water for five minutes. They may not be room temperature exactly, but they will be close.
How to Make Better Mashed Potatoes - Cut your raw potatoes into 2 inch squares before boiling. Mash with a manual hand potato masher. Food processors or electric mixers convert the starch in potatoes to strands which make them gluey and gummy.
