If you have ever tried a Magic Eraser Sponge, I bet you were amazed. I know I was. At our old house (before we moved to our homestead) we had a shower enclosure in the second bathroom. The bottom of it was always dirty from my husband showering after work. He is a diesel mechanic and many times he arrives home quite black, and it seems that most of that black ends up on the shower floor. I tried so many things to clean it and it just took old fashioned elbow grease to scour it off. The older it got, the harder it became to get clean. That is, until I tried a Magic Eraser!

When you live in the country, there are an amazing amount of things that stain your clothes. Just every day things that you would never think twice about can do a real number on fabric. It is especially bad when you are in a hurry and don't examine the pieces before you wash and dry them. That sets the stains and makes them much harder to get out. As a result, I was in need of a super stain remover! Now that the holidays are over and things have settled back down, I have decided to try to restock some of the things in my pantry that I have run out of. The first thing that I am finding that I have used up and am definitely missing is my homemade dry chili seasoning. Having this premade mix simplifies making chili and I can also make it much faster. Just toss in the cooked meat and veggies with tomato sauce and this seasoning mix and turn your crock pot on high for 4 hours and walk away. Fast and easy!
Have you always avoided making pickles because you thought it was complicated and messy? Or maybe because you thought it took a long time or was expensive? Many people think that they cannot make their own pickles if they don't grown their own cucumbers. Think again! You can make delicious pickles in just a few minutes, and you can do it with cucumbers that you buy in the store. You can still save a ton of money, even if you buy all the ingredients.
As an added bonus, you know exactly what you are getting with these pickles. They don't have a ton of hidden salt, sugar, or preservatives. I know this sounds too good to be true, but trust me, it isn't. I know because I did it and I have never made refrigerator pickles before in my life. These pickles are delicious! Lipton's onion soup mix has almost too many uses to count. I used to buy it three boxes at a time. I used it for making soup, onion dip, meatloaf, roast, casseroles, chicken and rice, potatoes, oven fried chicken, frittatas, vegetable fries, and onion spread, just to name a few. One of the bad thing about this wonder mix is that buying a lot of a name brand packaged item is not exactly cheap. Another bad thing is that you are not exactly sure about what all is in it. Lipton's has many recognizable ingredients like soy sauce and corn syrup, but they also have a few that are mystery items like: maltodextrin, disodium guanylate, and disodium inosinate. Huh? I prefer not to eat this kind of stuff if I can avoid it. Luckily, it can be easily avoided by making your own onion soup mix. Then you know exactly what you are eating and feeding your family. It's easy! When you toss those stiff, white dryer sheets onto your wet clothes in your dryer, do you ever wonder what is in them? What makes them stiff? What do they infuse them with that gives them that nice smell. Even more importantly, what do they transfer on to your clothes? Does it shorten the life of the garments? Is smelling the odor of them in your laundry room toxic? I decided to do some research and see if I could find out. No man made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little ~ Edmund Burke Replacing disposable items with reusable items is kind, thoughtful, frugal and saves time:
Do you need some extra money for Christmas? It is actually easier to make than you might think. You don't have to have special skills, or be brilliantly smart, all you really need is the willingness to do things that people need done to get ready for Christmas. In other words, be a HOLIDAY HELPER! Updated for 2018
Today I want to share with you an easy recipe to make your own liquid hand soap. We use a lot of soap in our household. My husband is a mechanic, and as much as I garden, our hands are always dirty. I don't like bar soap because the bar always gets grimy and I hate looking at a dirty looking bar of soap on my sink top. It just looks gross! So to avoid this situation we use liquid soap. The problem is, good liquid hand soap is kinda pricey, so I learned to make my own!
Did you know that you can grow some of your favorite herbs in water on your own kitchen window sill? No more need to use dried herbs when it is too cold outside to have a viable garden. The best part is that you don't have to mess with soil and watering because you can grow fresh herbs in water! It really is very easy, I started mine about a month ago because I got tired of having to buy fresh herbs and have them spoil, which wastes money, or using dried herbs. I just don't think that dried herbs have the same bright, vibrant flavor as fresh. That is why I decided to try growing my own in water. |
