Today I would like to share with you one of my favorite cake recipes. Some of my family think that this is a cake best served in the fall or for the holidays, but I say it is great anytime! I especially like it for picnics. It is a very old recipe, and it is absolutely delicious!

Instructions:
Set oven at 350 degrees.
Grease a 13 x 9 baking pan and set aside.
With an electric mixer, beat butter and sugar until mixed.
Beat the egg and pour into mixing bowl and beat slowly.
Slowly add molasses and mix thoroughly.
In a separate bowl, sift all dry ingredients together.
Add dry ingredients to wet and then slowly add hot water and beat until batter is smooth
Pour into the greased baking pan
Bake for 30 minutes, insert a butter knife and if it comes out clean, it's done.
If it does not come out clean, bake an additional 5 to 10 minutes until it comes out clean.
