Today I wanted to share with you an delicious and easy recipe for those wonderful fall apples that you see at the farmers market. If you have never had it before, then Cinnamon Apple Butter is something you must try! It is simple to make and easy to can, and then you can enjoy it all winter long on toast, bagels, waffles, biscuits and more. |
Ingredients:
- 4 pounds apples (about 16 medium)
- 4 cups sugar (I use coconut palm)
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp cloves
- ½ tsp ground ginger
Directions:
Wash and peel , core, and cut apples into 4 or 5 pieces each
Place apples in water in a large saucepan.
Simmer over medium heat until soft.
Puree using a blender or food processor to pulp consistency, do not liquify to juice
Place apple pulp back in the saucepan and add cinnamon, cloves and ginger
Heat on medium and add sugar as the mixture grows hot, stirring frequently (scraping the sides)
Do not let it boil
When the desired consistency is reached, remove from heat and pour into hot sterilized canning jars
Leave 1/4 inch room at the top and stir gently to remove air bubbles
Screw lids on tightly and process for 10 minutes in a hot water canner
You should get 6 to 8 pints, depending on the size of the apples.
I love apple butter on my english muffins for breakfast, sometimes I put banana slices on top of the apple butter, that is really yummy. I also love it on wheat crackers or even on a peanut butter sandwich in place of the jam. Really you can use apple butter in place of jam for many things. Give it a try and see !
Cheers,
Jade :)
