Homemade Deodorant by Marika Charalambous
After a false start, here it is - and it's smelling wonderfully too, you almost want to eat it! All natural, healthy and it keeps me fresh all day long too (didn't believe this one until I experienced it for real).
Ingredients:
- virgin coconut oil
- baking soda (soda bicarbonate) - NOT baking powder!
- cornflour (corn starch for the Americans out there)
How to do it:
Mix equal parts of corn starch and baking soda and add an equal part of coconut oil. The real coconut oil is hard in cooler temps, but it gets liquid when it's hot. I do prefer to use it when it's harder, so I put first the oil in the fridge for about an hour to become semi-hard consistent.
I found that I needed more coconut oil to get to a state that is like the mashed potatoes (puree).
Emptied an old commercial deo (kept it in hot water for a while for the smell to leave), and then put the mix in it. This went to the fridge and you can see how nice hard it became - just perfect for using it.
The rest I put in a glass jar and I have enough for at least 3 more times before I need to make another batch.
This not only saves money (commercial deos are not cheap), but it's healthy too and the smell, oh boy, it's pure heaven!
Has anyone tried this recipe or something else as a healthy alternative to the commercial cr*p out there?
