I have been making my own cake mixes for a long time, but I only recently started giving away the dry ingredients as jar gifts. I think gifting dry mixes is the best idea ever. It is inexpensive for the giver, and it gives the receiver the precious gift of time. They can make healthy homemade bake goods for their family without taking the time to make them from scratch. What could be better? It also shows that you cared enough to take the time to make something personal as a gift, rather than just buying something.
So how do you make a homemade cake mix? How do you make the mix into a jar gift? It is really pretty easy, I have the ingredients for each outlined below. The dry ingredients go into your jar, and the wet ingredients and instructions you write on a pretty note and tie it to your jar with a pretty ribbon
| Ingredients: Dry mix: 2 1/2 cups flour 2 1/4 cups white sugar 1/3 cup instant nonfat dry milk 2 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon salt What to add to dry mix to bake: 3 large eggs 3/4 cup vegetable oil 1 tablespoon vanilla |  |
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
Coat a 13 x 9 baking pan with cooking spray
With an electric mixer, beat 1 1/4 cup water, oil, eggs and vanilla on slow until combined
Add the dry mix and beat on medium until well combined and smooth
Pour into cake pans and bake about 25 minutes and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean
Let cool in the pan for 5 to 10 minutes then remove from the pan and let cool completely before frosting. If you prefer, you can leave it in the pan to cool and just frost the top.
