and Fun Things To Do With Them
Wooden gift tags are very inexpensive and there are many fun crafts you can make with them. They are enjoyable to decorate and can be used for so much more than just tagging gifts. I bought a bag of them to use on my jar gifts as tags because I found that cardboard tags are easily damaged or lost. I had quite a few left, so my crafting mind went into overdrive!

The first thing that came to mind was to give them a fresh holiday scent, so I got out my essentials oils and chose pine oil. Any oil you like can be used, I considered cinnamon and mint, but in the end, nothing smells like Christmas more than fresh pine. |

Next I took a paint brush, and painted a thick layer of pine oil on the back of the tag. Don't paint it on the front as it you will not be able to paint or glue on it. I let it dry for 15 minutes. |

After 15 minutes I took the tags and placed them in a Ziploc bag and zipped it almost all the way shut, and then blew in it to puff it up and zipped it the rest of the way shut. I left them in the bag for 24 hours so the scent would permeate the wood completely.

The next day, the tags smelled so good! Just like a fresh cut pine tree! The first thing I thought of was how great it would be to hang a few on my artificial Christmas tree, so it would smell like a real one! But first, they would have to be decorated. I used three methods for decorating:
1. Hand Painting
If you want to hand paint your tags, you can use any type of image you want. These three represent the three types of hand painting I used: picure (snowman), words (let it snow) and clothing (santa suit). There are many different ways to paint tags, let imagination be your guide!
2. Pre-printed Gift Tag Images
I had a sheet of really cute gift tags that were stickers, so I decided to use some of them to decorate my tags. All you have to do is to mix some paint to match the background and you are good to go. Examples of this method are below:
3. Wrapping Paper
This is by far the easiest way to decorate your tags. All you have to do is find some wrapping paper, trace around your tag, cut it out and glue it on. For this I recommend using Mod Podge. I tried using Elmer's Glue and it wrinkled the paper as it dried. I also recommend you use heavy, thick paper, it will give you the best result.
There are many ways these scented tags can be used. Not only to make your Christmas tree smell real, you can also hang them in your car to make it smell wonderful! Actually they can be hung up in any small space to make it smell like a pine forest!
I painted a couple with cinnamon oil and hung them in my laundry room. Now every time I open the door, the room smells like cinnamon cookies!
I also plan to paint a few tags with peppermint oil, and use them to tag some jar gifts I am making to give away for Christmas. Peppermint scented tags on a jar of homemade peppermint flavored cocoa, how fun will that be?
