Never Buy Dryer Sheets Again!

I really hate static electricity and static cling in my fabrics.  I also hated having to continually pay for dryer sheets that you use once and throw away.  Well, I didn't throw mine away, I came up with a few pretty ingenious things to do with them, my favorite being cutting them into strips and using them to tie up my plants.

It still griped me to have to buy them, though.  I can make my own laundry soap, but I never really found a good way to make fabric softener sheets.  I tried cutting liquid fabric softener with water (1:1 ratio) and then soaking a washrag or sponge in it and wringing it out and putting it in the dryer.  It worked well enough, but it was just way too much hassle, not to mention I was always afraid that the softener would rub off on my clothes and stain them.

I was doing some research on the internet and I ran across an article on Lifehacker that said you could use wadded up aluminum foil balls in the dryer in place of dryer sheets, and they got rid of static cling and as an added bonus, left no residue on you clothes.  I was like "WHOA, I gotta try this."  So I did, and it worked like a charm. 

Just wad up aluminum foil, I use the big sheets I use to cover casseroles when cooking.  Instead of trying to fold them up and save them to use again, I just wad them up and toss them in a small basket I have on a shelf in my laundry room.  I usually change my balls about once every two or three months, using foil I have previously used in cooking. (after washing it, of course)

It is a great recycle and will save me money, a win win situation.  But what will I tie my plants up with now?   Hmmm.......I am thinking on that one, I am sure I will come up with something!
