After making the mix, I put it in small canning jar, and I tie a bow around the neck of the jar with a tag with instructions on how to cook the dish. Sometimes if I am really ambitious, I cut a circle of fabric with my pinking shears and put that over the lid and then tie around the neck of the jar.
Ingredients:
2 cups of white or brown rice
3 tablespoons of dried, minced onion
1 teaspoon garlic powder (or dried minced garlic)
1 teaspoon seasoned salt or chicken seasoning
1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper flakes
pinch of basil
pinch of oregano
Directions for tag:
Add mix to 3 1/4 cups of chicken broth, a teaspoon of real butter and a dollop of olive oil.
Stir well and pour into a greased oven safe pan and bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.
Make sure all the liquid is absorbed and the rice is cooked tender.
I usually make a quadruple batch and keep it in my pantry, so I can make a delicious, quick side when making dinner. Sometimes I boil and cube some chicken breasts and toss in some vegetables to make a one pan meal, that is really yummy. There are so many uses for this mix, you can even make chicken rice soup with it, just double the amount of broth, toss in some chicken cubes and cook it on top of the stove in a saucepan until the rice is tender. Once you make this mix, you will never want to be without it!
Have a great Saturday!
