Ingredients:
- 8 x 8 pan of brownies (homemade or mix)
- 2 boxes instant pistachio pudding or vanilla with green food coloring
- large container of Cool Whip
- bag of shelled pistachios (if using pistachio pudding) or crushed chocolate cookies if you are using vanilla pudding
Directions:
Make brownies and set aside to cool to room temperature. When cool slice into squares.
Make pudding according to directions and put in the refrigerator (I used pistachio, but if you do not like pistachio, you can make vanilla and add green food coloring)
Take a large glass bowl and put a layer of brownies on the bottom
Spoon half of the pudding on top of the brownies and sprinkle some pistachios over it
Cover the pudding with a thick layer of Cool Whip
Add another layer of brownies, pudding and Cool Whip
Sprinkle pistachios on top or if using vanilla pudding, crush some chocolate cookies and sprinkle on top.
Place in refrigerator until time to serve
One of the best things about this trifle, is because it is made with brownies which are more dense than cake, it does not get soggy like some trifles do, over time. We ate this for dessert over the course of a week, and it was as delicious the last night as it was the first. It never got mushy, the brownies kept their texture till the end!
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

There is a much better solution to the question of what to put your trifle in. Instead of using the lovely trifle bowls that are a pain to store, take up a ton of room in your fridge and have no lid, use these pretty but simple glass bowls. Just snap the lid on, and slip in the fridge. Easy and still pretty! |
