Most people these days would not have any idea how to pick a bean, how to tell if its ripe, how to clean it or how to cook it. They have spent their entire life eating precooked green beans from cans or frozen in bags. Almost all people would not be willing to kill a chicken to have the meat for dinner, not to mention they would have no idea how to gut it, pluck it or prepare it for cooking. They would be horrified if you even suggested they do such a thing.
This is how removed many of us have become from the source of our food.
The hamburger that you picked up from Wendy's was once a cow, did you know? He or she was furry, with big floppy ears and said "moooooooo!" The same goes for that filet you paid a ridiculous price for at a restaurant last week. And that thinly sliced roast beef you put on your child's sandwich for lunch. All come from animals that once walked on hooves and ate grass. Now before you start to think that this is an article that will try to convince you to become a vegetarian, that is totally not what this is about.
What it is about is this... Would you kill a chicken to have for dinner? Yes, kill it......chop off it's head, bleed it, pluck it, cut it open and remove the guts, cut off his feet and wash it ? Could you do that? Would you? What if that was the only way that you would be able to get meat to eat.......to kill it yourself? What if you were starving? Would that make a difference? Would you do it then? |
It's something to think about.
