I am not one to have a ton of apps on my phone. In fact, I had almost none until a few days ago when I heard about a recycling app that I thought would be useful. After I downloaded it, I started looking around the App Store, and I found four others that I thought would really help me in my resolve for my family to live a healthier and greener lifestyle. I wanted to share them with you. :)

Locavore (Apple) Locavore (Android) - (free) Finds the Farmers Market closest to you.
Better World Shopper (Apple) - ($1.99) This app contains 20 years of information on a huge number of corporations like food retailers, banks, airlines, etc. Each company is graded A through F on their history regarding human rights, the environment, animal testing and protections, social justice and community involvement.
iRecycle (Apple) iRecycle (Android)- (free) This application finds local recycling centers. iRecycle provides access to more than 1,600,000 ways to recycle over 350 materials. It also gives you information on collection facilities, such as if they have a website, what their phone number is, how to find it, hours of operation and all the materials they collect.
Seventh Generation Label Guide (Apple) - (free) Want to know what chemicals are in a certain product you use or are considering using? It's a simple matter with this app. It gives you the info you want to know that product labels don't. It also educates you regarding how to read labels to understand the risks that some product pose to you and your family.
Dirty Produce (Apple) Dirty Produce (Android) - (free) This app rates pesticide residue on conventional foods, so you can make an informed decision on which veggies and fruits you can safely buy from non organic growers.

I don't go out of my way to use a lot of technology in my life, since I am on a mission to simplify it. However, if there is something that I can use that is free, or inexpensive that will help me live closer to the earth and to feed my family in in a safer manner, then I will use it. It isn't that I couldn't live without it, I could, but since already have the phone, I don't see any reason not to take advantage of the resources at hand. (pun intended)
