The Ultimate Autumn Cake

Autumn is in full swing! Colorful leaves, crisp air and best of all the holidays are coming! This pumpkin cake has always been a family favorite for autumn. It is a delicious cake to bring to a family dinner, or a Halloween party. I love to make it just for me to have as an afternoon snack on the deck with a big mug of coffee made with gingerbread flavored cream. Autumn has delicious flavors.....nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves. Cooking with these make the whole house smell deliciously fall-like. One of my favorite flavors this time of year is pumpkin spice. It incorporates all my favorite flavors in one delicious taste. You can do so much with it! Many people think that it is strictly for pumpkin pie, or pumpkin cheesecake, but I am here to tell you there is so much more!

First let's make the pumpkin spice from scratch, because it tastes so much better when made with fresh, organic ingredients.

I ran across such a cute idea a few days ago. I saw it on You Tube, when I was looking for another sewing video. It is such an easy and cute idea, it is just perfect for so many Halloweeny functions where you want to be a bit in the spirit of the season without showing up in a full costume.

After doing a bit more digging, I found a couple other projects that are also easy and fun, so I decided to include them.

Tomorrow is the first day of fall and I am so excited. I love fall! The beautiful leaves, the crisp air, the upcoming holidays. It is a time full of change and the promise of fun times to come! One of my favorite things about autumn is the flavors. Out comes the pumpkin pie spice, the nutmeg and cinnamon, orange and clove and crisp, juicy apple.

The one thing that embodies all the flavors of fall is spicy, mulled cider. It is one of my favorite drinks of the fall season, so I wanted to share my recipe with you.

St. Patrick's Day is coming soon! Time to break out new recipes to celebrate this fun holiday. I really love trifles, but since they are usually a summer dessert, this time of year you rarely see them. I decided to make something a bit different: A St. Patrick's Day Winter Trifle! It has no fresh fruits, but it has all kinds of other yummy goodness that trifles are famous for. It's also GREEN! Perfect for the holiday!

Irish Stew - What to Have on St. Patrick's Day

I love to have an Irish dish on St. Patrick's Day. I just think that it is a fun way to celebrate. Many times I will make the traditional corned beef and cabbage, but the price of corned beef has really gotten out of sight, so this year, that dish is not an option.

I was going through my recipes, looking for an appropriate dish when I ran across my recipe for Irish Stew. My eyes just lit up. I have not made that recipe for ages! It will be perfect for St. Patrick's Day. I make mine with lamb, if you can get it for a decent price, if not, beef is also fine.

Fresh Cranberry Relish - A Family Recipe

I used to eat cranberry sauce that you get in a can. I loved it and always looked forward to having it on Thanksgiving. Then one year, it had to be at least a decade ago, my older sister made some fresh cranberry relish and brought it on Thanksgiving. I didn't eat any that year....I remember thinking to myself "What is this lumpy stuff? I am not missing eating my lovely smooth cranberry sauce for this stuff!"

The next year, there it was again, the cranberry relish. I have to admit I was curious. I kept looking at it and wondering what it tasted like. So I slipped a spoon out of the drawer, and scooped some up of the interloper and tasted it.
