Thanksgiving is one of my most favorite times of the year. Last year I shared some posts for Thanksgiving that I really loved, so I have decided to re-share them this year, just in case you missed them. I hope you enjoy them!

I make this pie for my husband at Thanksgiving because he has diabetes and regular pumpkin pie has way too much sugar in it. You would never know this was not a regular pumpkin pie, it is just that good. Updated November 2018 At Home or Trick or Treating, Make Sure Your Dog is Safe
Halloween can be a perilous time for dogs. Decorations, extension cords, candles and all that candy can be dangerous to any pet, Halloween night especially can be very stressful on your pets, especially dogs. Most dogs are protective of their home and their people, so rings at the door mean potential danger from strangers, to a dog. Repeated doorbell rings can create a state of agitation that can do everything from make your dog physically sick to make them unusually aggressive or prone to bite.
Keeping your dog (and your neighborhood kids) safe on Halloween is a fairly easy thing to do with a little bit of planning. Updated for 2021 I have a recipe for a St. Paddy's Day treat that is really unusual. It involves rice krispie treats, but they are not dyed green, or cover in a paste of green colored icing. These krispie treats are made in the traditional way, but then they are covered in a delicious sour lemon glaze and then sprinkled with green sugar crystals. The mix of flavors is just delicious! I wanted to share this recipe with you because before you know it, St. Patrick's Day will be here and I know you will want to make these! Updated for 2019 Red velvet cake is one of my favorite. We never had it much growing up, as my dad was a bit uncomfortable with the color, so when we did, it was a real treat. The recipe is one that is handed down from my grandma, so it has some rather old fashioned ingredients you don't see in many cakes today, (like buttermilk and vinegar) but don't let that scare you, this cake is heavenly!
I am also including the recipe for my mom's butter cream frosting that is the best frosting you will ever have in your mouth, guaranteed. You can color it red or pink for Valentine's day, but in it's basic form, it is a beautiful snowy white. Make sure to save this frosting recipe, it is the one you will be using for the rest of your life. :)
I was watching Rachel Ray this morning, and she was talking about spatchcocking a Thanksgiving turkey. I was like.....huh? I had never heard of spatchcocking before. I was intrigued, so I did some internet investigation (aka Googled it) and this is what I found...
Well, here we are at the last day of the five days of stuffing. Today's recipe is very special because it is my own family's recipe that we have used for three generations. My family is from the south so it is cornbread stuffing. However, what makes it so scrumptious is the homemade sage cornbread that it is made with. You have to make the cornbread from scratch, box mixes make for a dressing disaster!
So, we will start out with the Sage Cornbread Recipe Welcome to day four of the five days of stuffing. Today I have decided to share an old German recipe for apple and pecan stuffing. Well, I am not sure it is really German, but it came from a lady at church that is German, does that count? She said she makes it for Christmas Dinner, every year. I've never tried it, but I am thinking making some for a holiday dinner, this season, because it sounds yummy.
Welcome to day three of the five days of stuffing. Today I want to share with you a stuffing recipe that is quite unusual. Instead of being made with traditional ingredients, it is made with wild seasoned rice and tomatoes. It is really different and delicious!
Here we are on day two of the five days of stuffing. Today I have decided to share with you a recipe I got from a friend of mine who is vegan. I tasted this dressing last year when she brought me over a small bowl the day after Thanksgiving. She told me that meatless stuffing could be every bit as good as regular, as she handed me the bowl. I have to admit, it was very good. It has a lot of herbs in it and is very flavorful. She was so proud when I asked her for the recipe. What she didn't know is that I was thinking that the only way to improve on this yummy stuffing recipe would be to add some turkey to it! (shhhhhh.....don't tell her I said that) Oh well, you can't teach an old carnivore new tricks.
Anyway, it is really delicious. |
