I belong to a Facebook group called The Minimalist Life. It is about getting rid of the excess stuff in your life and paring it down to what is really important. They have posts about all kinds of decluttering and organization. It really has some great ideas.
Last week I saw a really awesome idea on how to turn a bookcase into a child's closet. This idea would be perfect for someone who had a very small house or apartment and had a new baby with no place to put their clothing and other baby items. The photo was from a group member named Sprite Dunbar. I got her permission to use the photo and to discuss her idea here on my blog.
I ran across the coolest craft project ever on a blog I read called Creative Dominican. It shows how to take a plain plastic tote and turn it into a beautiful storage box. Well, she calls it a toy bin, it is actually nice enough to put in your living room and could be made even fancier or dressed down with denim or such to make a cute storage box for any room in your house.
To get the full low down on how to do this, here is the link to the post with the tutorial. I plan on making one very soon to hold the extra pillows and afghans in my family room. I already have the fabric!
I was looking around on the website Hometalk looking at all the really cool crafts and home decor ideas. I do this a couple times a week, I would do it more but I can't afford the time. I could spend hours on that site, love their innovative posts!
But, I digress. During my travels on Hometalk, I saw one of the cutest, and simplest ideas that I have seen in years. I just lit up! I immediately emailed Lisa, of The Pennington Point website and asked her if I could feature her idea here on Homemade by Jade. I just had to share it with you all, it is adorable!
These candle holders are so easy to make and can be dressed up for the holidays or dressed down. They are beautiful in almost any decor. If you want to make yourself a set of these, the tutorial is here:

Birch Wood Candle Holders
I love simple Christmas decorations. The clean lines without all the schmaltz seems to reduce my stress and help me feel more peaceful.....
something we all need at this time of year.
I woke up this morning and it was actually chilly in my house! I looked out the window and there were a few leaves on my lawn. Fall is here! I love this season, it always holds such promise of fun to come: Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas.
One of the things I love the most about fall is decorating. After a long, hot summer, I am ready for a new look for my family room and kitchen. Fall gives you a great reason to change your decor. Time to go for a more cozy theme, a warm and inviting look that will carry you through winter and into spring.
