Why would you want to wrap gifts without bows, you ask? Well, there are several reasons, but why I had to do it was because I have a feisty 10 month old orange kitten that simply won't leave bows alone. So unless I want a bunch of bedraggled, ripped and toothmarked Christmas bows, I had to go another route. Another reason would be to save money. Ribbon is expensive, even bags of premade bows are as inexpensive as they used to be. Going without bows saves money! A third reason is that it is impossible to stack gifts for transport if they have bows on them. You can try, but I guarantee by the time you get them to the desired location, they bows will be mashed, ripped or missing completely. Do yourself a favor and go bowless! With a little ingenuity and glue, you will have gorgeous packages and the recipients will be amazed! If you have ever seen a movie of A Christmas Carol, you remember the scene of the Cratchit family's Christmas dinner. At the end of the meal, Mrs. Cratchit brings in a very small, but elegant flaming dessert....a plum pudding. After tasting, Bob Cratchit declares it is the best she has ever made, in all the years of their marriage. She beams in delight at the compliment. She should beam! Plum pudding is not easy to make, and even harder to make well, especially with the equipment they had back in the time of A Christmas Carol! Luckily, as time has passed, the equipment has improved and with it, the recipe has gotten easier. It is still a complex recipe with many ingredients, but it is one of the most beautiful and awe inspiring desserts that you can make and serve at any dinner. Let's take a look at how it's made. Updated for 2023! and Fun Things To Do With ThemWooden gift tags are very inexpensive and there are many fun crafts you can make with them. They are enjoyable to decorate and can be used for so much more than just tagging gifts. I bought a bag of them to use on my jar gifts as tags because I found that cardboard tags are easily damaged or lost. I had quite a few left, so my crafting mind went into overdrive! Every year you are bound to hear the same thing from someone that you know: I just don't seem to feel the Christmas spirit this year. For some people it is not easy to get in the Holiday spirit. Maybe it's their life situation or they've had a loss of some type. Maybe they just aren't feeling it because they just aren't, for no reason at all. It is hard to get through all the work it takes to prepare for the holidays if you are not feeling the Christmas cheer. There are some things you can do to help bring the spirit into your life and hopefully into your heart. It's fairly simple, but you have to be open to that joyous feeling that doing these things can bring to you.
I was wrapping gifts last night and I had several in the same size box. Unfortunately, it was leaving me with scraps of wrapping paper that I was not sure were big enough to use. I didn't want to toss perfectly good paper, so I decided to get creative and use two different papers on the same package.
I thought it came out really cute, so cute I plan to wrap some more in the same manner, just because I like it!
It is always better not to waste things, so if you can use all your wrapping paper, that is less you will have to buy. Not to mention that people will see your frugality as imagination and craft talent!
Have fun when preparing for Christmas!

I love sock animals! I think the thing I love about them the most is the fact that they are almost always handmade. You have to love something that is made by hand, especially if it is a gift. I keep a file of sock animal patterns, and since the holidays are coming up, I thought I would share them with you. They are such thoughtful gifts for new babies, little girls or boys and even for the elderly. People love to receive things that are hand made because it shows that you are willing to spend time making a gift especially for them. It is more personal. Trust me, I have given sock animals as gifts for years and they are always well received.
Do you need some extra money for Christmas? It is actually easier to make than you might think. You don't have to have special skills, or be brilliantly smart, all you really need is the willingness to do things that people need done to get ready for Christmas. In other words, be a HOLIDAY HELPER! Updated for 2018
Breakfast casserole on Christmas morning has been a tradition in our household for a long time. We got it from my sister, who made it for her family long before I ever got married. It is really delicious, why wouldn't it be? Made from eggs, cheese, sausage......could anything made from these ingredients not be yummy? Of course not! The best thing about this casserole, is that it has to be made the day before! This virtually guarantees a Christmas morning that is cooking free, what could be better!
