A while back I told you all about the extremely old cookbook that I found in my mothers things. It has no cover and no information on where it came from. The pages are yellowed and it looks like it was typed on an old fashioned typewriter, complete with some of the letter floating up because the key was sprung. It is not bound, but simply stapled together. It is dog eared and stained, you can tell it has been well used. I love trying out recipes from this old cookbook. It is like a taste of the past. Today I am going to share one with you that I love, it is called Sorghum Molasses Cake. When you live in the country, there are an amazing amount of things that stain your clothes. Just every day things that you would never think twice about can do a real number on fabric. It is especially bad when you are in a hurry and don't examine the pieces before you wash and dry them. That sets the stains and makes them much harder to get out. As a result, I was in need of a super stain remover! Now that the holidays are over and things have settled back down, I have decided to try to restock some of the things in my pantry that I have run out of. The first thing that I am finding that I have used up and am definitely missing is my homemade dry chili seasoning. Having this premade mix simplifies making chili and I can also make it much faster. Just toss in the cooked meat and veggies with tomato sauce and this seasoning mix and turn your crock pot on high for 4 hours and walk away. Fast and easy! |
