Live More Frugally and Mindfully
Wasting food is as natural as breathing for many people. They don't even think about it, they eat what they want of a meal and toss the rest down the disposal. Putting a stop to this practice is a great part of living more frugally and more mindfully.

I have been trying to find alternative to using sandwich bags in my husband's lunch every day. I have been buying sandwich bags for this purpose for years and I am tired of throwing my money away. Then last week I stumbled upon a website that had reusable sandwich bags. At first I thought it was a ridiculous idea, but when I looked at the design, I saw why it would work or even be better than the plastic kind. The reason is because it unfolds flat, so you can easily clean it. I was getting ready to order a couple when it dawned on me that I could make these so easy, and a lot simpler than how they had made theirs. Below is my tutorial for making your own, it really is pretty easy. I was reading my Facebook wall this morning and I ran across a post by Evelyn Saenz. It said that most people have been using aluminum foil and plastic wrap wrong, their whole life! I am like....huh? What it actually meant was, we have not been removing it from the box properly, and causing ourselves unnecessary annoyance. Check out the video below, and you will see what I mean: Unbelievable, eh? I have gone my entire life never knowing about those tabs on the side of foil and plastic wrap boxes! /FACEPALM Did you know about them? Why haven't they ever put them in a commercial? Useful information in a commercial??!! Ridiculous! Well, I have done my kindness to humanity today by imparting this vital information that has been hidden from us for so long. Have a great day! Jade :)
I ran across this video over the weekend and I was amazed. I had no idea how easy it was to open a can without a can opener. You never know when this knowledge might come in handy, so I thought I would share it. Stinky Washer Solutions Sometimes after you have had your washer for a while, you begin to notice a musty, or downright damp stinky smell coming from your washer drum. If you have tried to get rid of it and have had no success, never fear! This is an article I wrote on how to get smells out of your washer.
Using a cast iron skillet is a personal choice. There are good reasons to use them and some reasons they are not so good. Personally, I use my cast iron for some things, but not for everything. Below is the good, the bad and the ugly. It is very unhealthy to have mold in your house. It can lead to debilitating illnesses and cause all kinds of breathing and lung problems. If you discover mold in your house, garage, shed or any enclosed space you or your family spend time in, you need to do something immediately. The best mold killer I know of is tea tree oil. It is antifungal as well as mold killing. The two drawbacks to this oil is that is it expensive (about $4 to $5 an ounce) and pretty stinky. (the smell does go away in a day or two) Updated for 2019 Apple vinegar is not hard to make, but you have to have patience, because it takes 7 weeks. No, that is not a typo, it takes 7 weeks because it is made through a process of fermentation. However, while it does take time, the process is very easy to do, and costs practically nothing and you can't beat that! |
