Sorry I have not been posting much lately, but I have been so busy! First of all we had to get our brooder set up in the basement for our new chicks. Ordering these huge totes, making secure tops to keep out certain feline elements and setting up the heat lamps. Baby chicks need it their environment to be about 90 degrees! My husband and I were joking that they also needed lawn chairs and sunglasses! Then when we got the chicks, I was pretty enchanted. I spent a lot of time playing with the little fluffies. They are pretty darn cute and fun to watch. My Mother was one of the best bakers I have ever known. Her cakes and pies were legendary. While leafing through my recipe collection today, I ran across some icing recipes in the box I got from her. They sounded so delicious that I decided to share them. My Mom always made layer cakes, but I think these would work just as well on a sheet cake. Enjoy! If you love to cook like I do, you are always on the lookout for good cooking tips. Whether they come from personal experience, relatives or the internet, cooking tips are great to know and to share. I hope you like the ones I am about to share with you! The weather here has been so bad recently. Snow and more snow in the middle of March! Oh well, I am using it as an excuse to try new soup recipes because I love to eat soup on cold and snowy days. Since it is so close to St. Patrick's Day, I decided to try an Irish recipe for soup. It turned out really yummy. I really love cabbage soup and this one has some pretty unusual ingredients. Enjoy! Updated for 2019 I know that savory bread pudding may sound kind of unusual, but actually in the past it used to be quite common, especially in England. Bread pudding of all kinds has been around for centuries, because it was an easy way to use up left over bread and other food. In the past food was much harder to come by than it is today and wasting it was simply not done. St. Patrick's Day is the perfect time to enjoy savory bread pudding. It's a great full meal for vegetarians, or if you prefer, you could add meat like bacon or ham. It also makes a great side dish. It seems that every restaurant I eat at, the tartar sauce tastes different. I think that is because there is such a wide variety of recipes and ingredients, that how it is made probably depends on the taste of the chef making it. It can be sour, or sweet, tangy or even hot and spicy.
This is a delicious dish that is perfect for breakfast or brunch, or really a snack any time. It's super easy to make, and it can be made and cooked in under an hour. Make it for your family this weekend and I bet it will become a new favorite! I love quinoa, but it was not so long ago that I did not even know what it was. Oh, sure, I had heard the word, and I knew it was a type of food, but that was where my knowledge ended. How much do you know about quinoa?
