Now that summer has arrived, so has the hot weather. If you work, or play, out in the heat then you will sweat, this is an unavoidable fact of life. Sweating is the body's mechanism to get rid of excess heat, but you also lose fluids and it is very important to replace them. The healthiest and most efficient way to do this is a drink with electrolytes to prevent dehydration. This is why you see athletes drinking Gatorade during the game at sporting events. Gatorade replaces electrolytes and prevents dehydration when a person is sweating constantly for long periods of time, like when playing ball, or working outside. Have you see the price of Gatorade? Not exactly cheap, so I decided to try making my own. It's pretty simple to do, you can even mix the powder and package it to mix with water when you want to drink it. The recipe is very easy.
If you are like me, you have a bunch of jeans that are faded at the knees and seams. They are still in good shape, meaning they are not work jeans, but they are faded from too many washings, or maybe they were too light colored when you bought them. You can rejuvenate them and make them look new again! Save yourself the money of buying new and you get to keep jeans that you already love. Sound like a win/win to me.
Here's how!
Last week I made a post about How to Make a Homemade Cake Mix and how it makes the perfect jar gift. I had a reader ask me if I had any other recipes for homemade cake mixes, preferably devil's food, carrot cake and spice cake. Luckily I did have the recipes for spice cake and for devil's food, but not for carrot cake. So I looked up several recipes online and began experimenting. I came up with a good homemade carrot cake, but I am not sure I would give it as a jar gift because there are as many wet ingredients as there are dry ingredients, so I am not sure how much of a time savings it would actually offer. Actually, the devil's food is the same way, so if you want to use either of them as a jar gift, keep that in mind. The spice cake, however, has only three wet ingredients, so it would be great as a jar gift.
I have been making my own cake mixes for a long time, but I only recently started giving away the dry ingredients as jar gifts. I think gifting dry mixes is the best idea ever. It is inexpensive for the giver, and it gives the receiver the precious gift of time. They can make healthy homemade bake goods for their family without taking the time to make them from scratch. What could be better? It also shows that you cared enough to take the time to make something personal as a gift, rather than just buying something.
I found out about Castile soap from a book that I got on Amazon about Grandma's Remedies and Recipes. It swore by the value of Castile soap and basically said it could be used for just about everything. So I tried it, and I found out that it is partially true. It can be used for lots of things, but some, not so much, like toothpaste. Castile is an all natural soap made from plant oils and that's all. No animal products, no chemicals, no preservatives. It is completely green and biodegradable. Castile is real soap, not the poisonous garbage that you buy in the store to wash your hands, clothes and hair. You can use Castile to wash all those, it's easy, cheaper and more earth friendly.
I hope everyone had wonderful holidays! I feel refreshed and recharged and ready for the new year. I have some great plans for this blog and things I want to include in it in the coming months. I hope you all sign up to get all my posts!
Today I want to talk about an easy homemade cleaner that you can easily make yourself that will do a great job cleaning just about everything in your home and costs virtually pennies per bottle. It also smells great and is safe for kids and pets. I just call it Orange Cleaner! Making your own coffee cream is really easy. Not only is it simple to do, but it is a lot healthier than the kind you buy in the store. Making your own assures you that there are no chemical preservatives or additives that are unhealthy for you and your family.
Almond Milk is delicious and good for you. It's also a lot easier to make than you think. It only takes four ingredients and about ten minutes. Yes, only ten minutes! Here's how:
You know the cabinets you have that are full of cleaners? Drain cleaner, glass cleaner, floor cleaner, dish soap, toilet cleaner, on and on. You don't need them. You sure don't need all the different chemicals around your family and pets, and you definitely don't need to spend the money required to buy a dozen different kinds of cleaners. Nor do you need to take up all the cabinet space storing the boxes, bottles and cans.
